Choosing the right tyres for your car without professional assistance is slightly more complicated than it seems. This is due to the various specifications and requirements set by the car manufacturer, the average speed of the car and the load ratings set. This is not without considering the driving conditions and weather in which you will be driving in.

With such a list of crucial things to consider, this task seems harder than it actually is. Below are a few items you can use to help you choose the perfect tyres for you.

Size— When buying a car, the manufacturer usually selects the right tyres to meet all the design and engineering requirements of the car. Elements such as weight and suspension are factored in by the manufacturer as they know how the vehicle is designed to perform. To know what size of tyres your car is supposed to be fitted with, look for a placard placed somewhere on the front end of your vehicle. For example, the glove compartment.

Speed and load ratings— The manufacturer, once again, specifies the minimum requirements needed for your vehicle to operate safely under certain speeds and when carrying a specified load. This is because cars travel under different speeds and different loads and thus tyres should exceed these ratings to ensure safety.

Driving conditions-- Driving conditions are a big determinant of which tyres you should choose as factors such as handling and durability are crucial in everyday driving. If you drive in a warm climate where most of your driving is done on well-maintained highways and tarmacked roads, then you will need summer tyres that are heat resistant and offer better fuel economy. If you live in areas where there is winter during certain times of the year, then you need to have a set of winter tyres in store as they improve grip and handling in cars, thereby increasing the safety of the cars.

Tyre brand— Tyres are expensive and going for a discount is more often seen as a more attractive option. However, this may be costlier in the long run as cheap tyres are sometimes not made with the required handling characteristics. This may affect steering, braking and handling and durability of the tyre which translates to overall safety for you. Ensure you buy tyres from trusted brands who have the required experience and expertise to cater to all your needs.
